Robert was only 27 when a round of enemy shrapnel barely missed his spine, embedded in his shoulder, and forced him to choose between medical discharge or permanent disability enlistment. Stepping back into civilian life, Robert had trouble finding a job, he faced a divorce, and before long, he was sleeping on friends’ couches and in his truck. His step-dad found him sleeping in his truck and brought Robert to Volunteers for America.
Thanks to the generous donations of people just like you, Volunteers of America was able to give Robert shelter, food, and counseling. He found friendship and the support needed for a second chance at life.
